‘100 ideas for a performative city’, 2025.08, Salzburg

During the summercourse tittle ‘100 ideas for a performative city’ lead by UrbanThinkTank_Next at the Summer Academy of Salzburg, Alejandro and I worked on a concept idea of the fifth facade: a festival on the roofs of the old city center in Salzburg. We developped this concept for three weeks resulting in an exhibition and a moving image piece. The project begins as a festival that opens access to strategic rooftops, transforming them into platforms, stages, and tribunes. It raises questions of conservation, ownership, accessibility, and function. The first intervention, intended to spark this transformation, is to bring Jedermann a cover while investing the Salzburg Residenz roof reframing the value of rooftops while offering citizens a new way to experience the play, in contrast to its traditional staging at the Domplatz. Year by year, new stairs, bridges, ramps, and platforms emerge, gradually reshaping the Altstadt into a multi-level landscape. Over time, these interventions evolve into permanent spaces, offering residents new elevated routes and reducing pressure on the ground. Renewable energy systems such as solar panels and micro-wind turbines provide shade, gathering areas, cultural venues, and even urban agriculture. Policies on tenure and ownership incentivize public, private, and industrial sectors to invest in rooftops, linking accessibility with energy generation and cultural programming.
